Mr. Michigan Races Across the State!
What? Cycling Speed Record Across Michigan!
When? Saturday, July 13, 2019
Where? Muskegon to Port Sanilac (206 miles)
How? Team Time Trial/Paceline style.
Who? Mr. Michigan and friends. Anyone who can ride safely in a paceline while averaging 25mph is invited!
Full Details:
The current speed record for crossing Michigan on a bike (W-E) is 9:12 (22.5mph) set by a 2-person team. Our team is going to be bigger and we hope to go significantly faster with a rolling average of 23-25mph which will be determined somewhat by weather and how big our paceline gets. Mr. Michigan will be riding the entire 206 miles and hopes to have a few teammates join him for the entire journey, but bike shops and cycling clubs across the state are invited to join in to make a big, fast, rolling party. If riding 206 miles doesn’t sound like your idea of a good time, you’re welcome to hop in for 20, 50, 100 miles or any distance that suits your schedule and fitness. The record will be a team accomplishment and all riders who participate for at least 10 miles will be recognized. We’ll have a support vehicle direct-following to ensure the safety of riders on the road, but riders will need to carry their own nutrition. This train doesn’t stop!
Weather: Obviously we’re hoping for a little tailwind. If conditions are neutral or favorable, we’ll make the attempt. In the event of inclement weather or a headwind we’re reserving July 14, 20 & 21 as back up dates.
Route: The ride will start from Bronson Park in Muskegon at 8am and end at the Port Sanilac Boat Launch. The route is 206 miles with only about 2k of elevation. It’s flat and fast! Full route here.
